Next step to a more secure and safe port area. Sohar Industrial Port Company (SIPC) the Port Authority of the Port of Sohar is constantly striving to improve safety and security for the people working in the port area and also for they who live nearby. The speed limit for all vehicles in the SIP area is 70 km/hr but unfortunately many choose to ignore this.
SIPC has therefore put together an Anti Hazardous traffic policy & procedure which has been endorsed by the companies in the port area before it is now launched. Uniformed patrollers started last week patrolling to enforce the policy. The vehicles used by the patrol are equipped with video cameras and radar guns to record offences. During the first few days the patrol has caught quite a number of offenders all driving by far over the allowed speed limit.
- Since the beginning of this year a serious number of accidents have taken place in the port area. These have all happened because of speeding and reckless driving. We take safety in the port very seriously and by launching this Anti Hazardous traffic policy we will warn and when necessary, take corrective action, says Mr Jan Meijer, CEO of SIPC.
- We are the Port Authority and therefore we need to take our responsibility says Mr Jan Meijer.
