First time ever in Oman!

For the very first time ever in Oman an oil rig, which was damaged during the tropical hurricane Rita, arrived to Oman and the Port of Sohar in the morning of May 9.

The complete operation of towing the rig into the Harmool Harbour took over 3 hours and needed assistance of 3 tugboats and 2 standing by. The tugboat pilots and the Marine department at the Port of Sohar managed to organize a smooth maneuver for the non maneuverable object also known as a dead ship from the pilot station into the quay.

The oil rig was damaged during the hurricane Rita’s violent rampage in New Orleans, USA almost 3 years ago. The company responsible for the operation, L&T Modular Fabrication Yard LLC, estimates the time for repairing the 75 meter round object up to 18 months. After the repair of the oil rig, it will be towed back to its country of origin.
